This Thursday, May 21, we celebrate the holyday of the ASCENSION OF THE LORD. This feast commemorates Jesus' leaving the world for the last time in His human body and "going up" to heaven. The event occurred 40 days after His Resurrection, in the presence of His Apostles, His Blessed Mother, and His Disciples. The feast has been celebrated by the Church from the earliest times. In many dioceses in the U.S. the Ascension is commemorated on the Sunday following the 40th day after Easter, but here in New York, we still celebrate Ascension Thursday. There's a old custom of opening the New Testament at random on this day, with the idea that on the chosen page there may be, as it were, some final message to you from Jesus as He makes His way back into heaven.
MASS FOR THE HOLY DAY WILL BE LIVE STREAMED ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE AT 9:00 am.
